Beaches and Boats
The sweep of bay called Swansea Sands that extends from the Marina to Mumbles is perfect for water sports including sailing, sea kayaking and windsurfing and is popular for kite flying and dog walking (September to May).
For more great sandy beaches, head around Mumbles point to the coves of Bracelet, Rotherslade and Langland Bay.
Venture a little further west to discover some of the most dramatic surfing beaches and coastline in the UK. Mile after mile of unspoilt coastal panoramas and lush rolling countryside that is the Gower Peninsular.
For 'boaties' and lovers of the sea, it doesn't come much better than a base in the Marina. Boasting a Gold Anchor Award, the Marina has an impressive range of working and pleasure crafts, some offering boat and fishing trips around the Gower coastline.
Since opening in 1982, the Marina has welcomed vessels from all over the world and has capacity for 365 berths adjacent to pontoons that provide electricity and water. 100 ft is the maximum size vessel that can be accommodated with access from the river via the barrage sea lock and an inner lock that provides access to the Marina proper.
Of historical interest are the names of vessels, registered in Swansea over 100 years ago, inscribed in the seaward side of the area's retaining sea wall which can be seen when walking along the promenade.
